Auto Body Technician
About The Position
Crash Champions is hiring an Auto Body Technician to perform collision repairs at one of its repair locations. The technician examines damaged vehicles and plans repairs efficiently, communicates repair status with others, and completes quality work while considering on-time delivery. They determine whether damaged parts should be repaired or replaced based on safety, cost, and cycle time. The role may include directing an apprentice when needed and explaining procedures or resolving unusual questions. This position is paid using a commission/flag-rate structure. Flag pay is guaranteed to meet local minimum-wage requirements for all hours worked each week. The posted compensation range reflects average flag pay for a typical full-time employee in this position: $65,000 to $158,400 per year. Actual offers depend on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, and qualifications. Benefits are subject to eligibility requirements and annual updates.
Requirements
- Ability to use a frame machine.
- I-CAR welding certification.
- Knowledge of the vehicle repair process by manufacturer.
- Skill in analyzing and interpreting measuring data.
- Ability to supervise repair personnel.
- Must be able to pass a thorough background check.
Nice To Haves
- Certification in body repair is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Examine damaged vehicles and plan the repair process efficiently.
- Work and communicate with others about vehicle repair status.
- Perform quality repairs while keeping on-time status in mind.
- Decide whether to repair or replace parts, considering safety, cost, and cycle time.
- Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic window operating equipment, and trim to gain access to the vehicle and fenders.
- Participate in required safety meetings.
- File, grind, and sand repaired surfaces using power tools and hand tools.
- Direct an apprentice’s work when needed, including addressing unusual problems or questions and explaining procedures.
