About The Position

The NC State Highway Patrol is recruiting for an Auto Body Mechanic. Are you an experienced mechanic ready for hands-on vehicle repairs? Join our team and play a key role in keeping our operations running smoothly.

Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in the area of assignment, or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to perform several widely varying and diverse assignments that require in-depth knowledge of the design of automotive bodies and related parts and of the methods, tools, and equipment used in their repair or replacement.
Working knowledge of the strength and malleability of metals.
Working knowledge of the use of a Mig welder in repair or replacement of damaged body panels.
Ability to troubleshoot complex vehicle repairs using the proper tools, resources, equipment and training.
Ability to read and comprehend repair manuals.

Nice To Haves

May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.

Responsibilities

Execute comprehensive body repairs, including dent removal, surface filling, and the restoration of mounting holes for specialized equipment (e.g., antennas and emergency lighting).
Restore filing cabinets and out of service vehicles to include but not limited to (hole repair, light bar removal, dents, decal removal, rubber bumper covers and repainting).
Replacement of glass of active patrol vehicles (windshields, damaged glass, water leaks, etc.).
Completing the detailing of active vehicles including sanding, buffing and re-decaling.
Maintain paint shop cleanliness including shop tools and equipment.
