About The Position

The Autism Spectrum Disorders Specialist II is responsible for working directly with children and adults with autism spectrum disorders, their families/caregivers, and the educational and local agencies serving children and adults with autism related disabilities. The Autism Spectrum Disorder Specialist II creates and delivers, consultation, training content and programs for professional development reflecting advanced understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders and related disabilities, and provides direct consultative services to children and adults with ASD and their families. The Autism Spectrum Disorder Specialist II is a member of a dedicated team of cross-disciplinary professionals with expertise in autism spectrum disorders, and works within a region to support all individuals and communities with individuals with autism in that region. The region for this position is Lake and Sumter counties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
  • Valid Class E driver’s license.
  • Authorization to work for any U.S. employer.
  • Must reside in Florida as of the date the employment begins.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's in Education, Communication Disorders, Psychology or a related field.
  • 4+ years working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders directly in an educational or clinical setting.
  • Bilingual candidate with the ability to communicate in English plus Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting remote and in‑person individual, school‑based, and in‑home consultations with clients.
  • Maintaining an active caseload of children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Conducting school and community consultations and in‑home visits involving daily regional travel using a personal vehicle.
  • Conducting initial phone consultations with new clients and provides recommendations based on presenting needs.
  • Using independent clinical judgment for the majority of basic stakeholder needs and situations.
  • Developing and modeling intervention programs, including communication and behavior supports, with families and educators.
  • Developing home programs with families of CARD clients.
  • Providing regional support for other stakeholders as needed.
  • Assisting in implementing Center goals and strategies.
  • Collaborating effectively with other Autism Disorders Specialists to support ongoing programs and initiatives.
  • Developing and providing innovative parent and professional education programs and content as requested by supervisor, with general supervision.
  • Delivering parent and professional seminars and education programs at least four times per month, including evening and weekend sessions.
  • Providing parent and professional training and education programs on a regular basis.
  • Providing basic technical assistance to school districts, agencies, employers, and community groups.
  • Providing stakeholders with collaborative consultation demonstrating understanding of ASD and competency in research‑based best practices.
  • Developing and maintaining a resource network of appropriate referrals based on client and stakeholder needs.
  • Writing and maintaining case reports, electronic client records, reports, and other professional correspondence.
  • Participating in case conferences, staff meetings, and other regularly scheduled meetings to support department needs.
  • Participating in meetings for the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD), College of Health Professions and Sciences, and other UCF units as requested by supervisor.
