About The Position

Radiology Associates of Florida (RAF) is a leading radiology practice in Florida, serving prestigious health systems across the state. Our practice emphasizes quality and operates at the cutting edge of radiology, encouraging subspecialty interpretations and collaboration. We utilize a state-of-the-art IT suite, including universal PACS, AI tools, and integrated communication widgets. Our practice is locally and democratically led, serving as teaching physicians for the University of South Florida Department of Radiology in Tampa. We are a diverse group of radiologists working and socializing in communities across Florida, functioning as one practice. The Authorizations Specialist obtains, verifies, and follows up on insurance authorizations and eligibility for scheduled exams. This role involves consulting with supervisors on complex situations, contacting insurance companies for prior authorization and predetermination, and verifying insurance eligibility against carrier databases. The specialist will maintain CPT code authorization files according to managed care contracts, perform clerical duties, and accurately enter data into the system, matching CPT codes to exam authorizations. Collaboration with Modality Protocol, Clinical Managers, or technologists is expected to ensure accuracy and workflow efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains documents, verifies, and conducts follow-up on insurance authorizations and insurance eligibility as required for scheduled exams.
  • Contacts insurance companies to obtain prior authorization and predetermination for exams ordered by practice providers.
  • Checks insurance eligibility to ensure that the information provided matches the insurance carrier’s database information.
  • Maintains CPT code authorization files based on managed care contracts.
  • Performs clerical duties as needed.
  • Enters data accurately into system, applying CPT codes to match authorization for exam.
  • Consults with Modality Protocol, Clinical Managers, or technologist, as needed to ensure accuracy and smooth workflow.
