About The Position

Therapy & Beyond is seeking an Authorization Specialist to manage the full lifecycle of insurance verification and authorization. The role supports financial reimbursement by securing pre-authorizations, obtaining retroactive approvals, and maintaining active authorizations for ongoing care. The specialist serves as a liaison among the organization, third-party payors, and clinical teams, helping minimize denials so staff can focus on delivering care.

Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of experience in insurance verification, medical billing, or authorization management.
Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and payor portals.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build rapport with insurance representatives.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide guidance and support to team members on authorization processes, best practices, and payor requirements.
Initiate and secure initial benefits, pre-authorizations, and re-authorizations through payor portals, fax, or telephone.
Follow payor-specific follow-up schedules to expedite claims and prevent revenue loss.
Manage complex requests, including retroactive authorizations and Single Case Agreements for out-of-network patients.
Accurately enter authorization quantities, CPT codes, and effective dates into the practice management system.
Coordinate with healthcare providers to obtain clinical notes, letters of medical necessity, and supporting documentation in a timely manner.
Develop and maintain a centralized Payor Master List and internal authorization manuals to standardize workflows and improve efficiency.
Review and interpret insurance group pre-certification requirements to ensure compliance before services are rendered.
