About The Position

The Division of Legislative Audit in Anchorage, Alaska, is seeking a Staff Auditor. This role is an entry-level audit position where the individual will learn basic audit skills and perform entry-level tasks under the direction of supervisory auditors. The division focuses on enhancing government operations and accountability through transparency within the State of Alaska. They support professional development, including efforts to become a licensed CPA and provide ongoing continuing education. The position involves working with a team of professionals on high-impact projects, including financial, compliance, and performance audits of state departments and programs. This includes auditing the state's significant financial activities, performing compliance testing for federal programs as part of the statewide single audit, and conducting performance audits of specific state operations.

Requirements

• Ability to communicate in a professional manner.
• Knowledge of or willingness to obtain knowledge of AICPA and Government Auditing Standards.
• Ability to evaluate business processes, identify risks, and identify controls that should be in place.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and analyze information.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to research and interpret federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.
• Ability to interpret and implement new accounting and auditing pronouncements.
• Ability to maintain confidential information.
• Ability to work in a team environment and foster a positive work atmosphere.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet frequent deadlines.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Possess a valid driver's license.
• Applicant must be qualified (or will be by their start date) to sit for the CPA exam and committed to actively studying to pass it, OR have passed the CPA exam or parts of the exam.
• Minimum GPA of 3.25 from an accredited university or college in a field relevant to this position.
• Applicants are required to meet the minimum qualifications as outlined above.
• It's a requirement of this position that applicants meet (or will meet by their start date) the eligibility requirement in Alaska to take the CPA exam.

Responsibilities

• Performs auditing procedures and techniques in accordance with audit standards established by the AICPA and government audit standards issued by the Comptroller General of the United States.
• Prepares workpapers that are thorough, complete, and accurate which document the audit procedures.
• Researches laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements to determine if programs and processes are being administered accordingly.
• Follows audit procedures to accurately identify errors and summarize the results of findings.
• Interviews state agency personnel regarding agency operations and documents the interviews.
• Works with state agency personnel to obtain audit documentation.
• Depending on experience, develops audit procedures.
• Depending on experience, assists in writing audit reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
