About The Position

The Arizona Criminal Justice Commission's mission is to continuously address, improve, sustain, and enhance public safety in the State of Arizona through the coordination, cohesiveness, and effectiveness of the criminal justice system. This is an in-office position, but may have the flexibility to work remotely. The Auditor III works under limited supervision of the Chief of Operations (Division Administrator Senior) in performing complex auditing reviews for city, county and state. Advises on the requirements, liabilities and penalties of compliance and noncompliance. Prepares audit reports, outlines, drafts and final reports. Provides advice and/or recommendations on corrective actions. May provide testimony at formal or informal hearings. May perform in a lead capacity. Develops audit scopes, objectives, and procedures in accordance with GAAS and GAS.

Requirements

  • Develops audit scopes, objectives and procedures in accordance with generally-accepted auditing standards (GAAS) and government audit standards (GAS)
  • Thorough knowledge of Federal and State rules and regulations pertaining to various grant programs
  • Policies and procedures utilized within various criminal justice agencies in Arizona
  • Computers and accounting software
  • Principles of auditing
  • Interpretation and application of appropriate Federal and State laws and regulations
  • Oral and written communication
  • Time Management
  • Ability to accurately interpret federal and state laws and regulations and explain complex concepts to subrecipients
  • Express delicate information in a confidential and informed manner without expressing accusation or blame
  • Maintain the confidentiality of information and release only to authorized personnel
  • Apply audit and accounting methods
  • At least two years' experience as an auditor or equivalent
  • Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver license record checks, required to maintain acceptable driving records and complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.11)
  • Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver license appropriate to the assignment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or closely related field
  • Some experience in the accounting field

Responsibilities

  • Review and examine contracts of city, county and state organizations for audit compliance and resolution of applicable findings.
  • Conducts field monitoring reviews and/or audits subrecipients, examining all source documentation.
  • Analyzes and evaluates work procedures, methods and rules for a work unit.
  • Compares data from sources to assure compliance with technical specifications, using judgment and relying upon considerable knowledge of the subject materials.
  • Monitor and recommend changes.
  • Attends periodic workshops or training sessions to improve working knowledge and skills at senior worker level in work systems.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
