About The Position

University of Colorado Medicine (CU Medicine) is the region's largest and most comprehensive multispecialty physician group practice. At our primary and specialty care clinics across the Denver metro area and Front Range, CU Anschutz School of Medicine physicians and advanced practice providers bring the latest medical knowledge and new advancements to the care they provide every day. CU Medicine also provides business operations, revenue cycle and administrative services to support the patients of CU Anschutz School of Medicine providers. We are seeking a highly motivated Audit Supervisor to join our Audit, Compliance, and Education (ACE) team. This job can be performed 100% remotely, and out of state candidates will be considered. Provide formal and informal coding and regulatory education to all attending physicians, residents, non-MD providers, CU Medicine coding, charge capture, and billing staff or other non-CU Medicine individuals involved with the billing for professional services. The education will include coding and documentation requirements as directed by Federal and State requirements as well as the AMA. Provide oversight supervision of auditing activities. Support varying operational and special projects to improve the overall effectiveness of coding and documentation compliance. Communicate effectively with other staff in our department and CU Medicine administration regarding compliance process, coordination of external audits, edit issues as it relates to coding and documentation. The individual in this role will assist the Audit Manager by tracking and using analytical reports to improve the effectiveness of processes and decision making throughout the Audit, Compliance & Education department.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years relevant experience in a physician practice setting.
  • CPC and CPMA certifications or equivalent required.
  • Experience in gathering information and understanding the context from several sources, analyzing this information in order to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Expert level proficiency in application development using Microsoft Access Excel, and PowerPoint, with strong working experience in the development of spreadsheet, graphing and flow-charting.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to ensure that project timelines are met.
  • Ability to work in a team environment working cohesively with others to achieve goals and initiatives is essential.
  • Must be flexible and maintain positive working relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Epic ambulatory credential preferred.
  • Experience in GE and Epic is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction to the audit staff on a day-to-day basis.
  • Respond to specific questions regarding systems, processing and policy.
  • Develop necessary monitoring tools to effectively supervise staff and make recommendations to Audit Manager for the reallocation of personnel as needed to maximize performance.
  • Provide analytical expertise including research, accurate interpretation, documentation and training for audit staff by identifying trends and risk areas.
  • Perform and participate in compliance-related projects based on coding, billing and regulatory guidelines.
  • Coordinate auditing outcomes and system maintenance with Audit Manager.
  • Identify issues that need new or revised policies or systems established.
  • Draft plan for same to review with Audit Manager.
  • Keep the Audit Manager informed of issues to ensure all deadlines are met in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate basic personnel issues, including timesheets, screening of applicants with participation in the hiring process and staff evaluations.
  • Maintain project plan and priority status for all projects to ensure that project timelines are met.
  • Assist Audit Manager in drafting audit standards, guidelines, and procedures according to ACE departmental goals.
  • Remain current with regulations, coding changes, and the general health care environment by accessing available materials and resources.
  • Responsible for day-to-day coverage of all assigned personnel activities through illness, vacation and vacancies to maintain consistent flow of processes.
