About The Position

As an Audit Supervisor focused on our Not-for-Profit practice, you will play a key leadership role in delivering exceptional client service while helping develop the next generation of audit professionals. This position is designed for a high-performing auditor who is ready to take the next step toward management—someone who enjoys building client relationships, leading engagement teams, mentoring staff, and contributing to the growth of the practice. You will serve as a trusted advisor to not-for-profit clients throughout the engagement lifecycle, gaining a deep understanding of their organizations, funding sources, compliance requirements, and strategic objectives. In addition to leading audit engagements, you will have opportunities to strengthen existing client relationships, identify additional service needs, participate in business development initiatives, and represent the firm within the not-for-profit community. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who combines strong technical expertise with strong communication skills, a client-focused mindset, and a desire to contribute to the continued growth and success of our Not-for-Profit practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • CPA license required, or actively pursuing CPA licensure with successful completion of one or more CPA exam sections and a clear plan to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Minimum of 5 years of audit experience, including at least 3 years in public accounting.
  • Significant experience serving Not-for-Profit clients, including financial statement audits and a strong understanding of NFP accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead audit engagements, supervise staff, manage budgets, and meet client deadlines.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience coaching, mentoring, and developing team members.
  • Strong client relationship management skills with the ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, boards, finance committees, and key stakeholders.
  • Interest in business development, networking, and building relationships within the Not-for-Profit community.
  • Strong technical knowledge of GAAP, FASB, GASB, and Not-for-Profit accounting standards.
  • Strong understanding of GAAS, Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), Uniform Guidance, and Single Audits preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, audit software, and data analytics tools.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Active CPA license.
  • Experience leading Single Audits and audits subject to Uniform Guidance.
  • Experience serving a variety of Not-for-Profit organizations, including foundations, associations, educational institutions, and human service organizations.
  • Involvement in professional associations, community organizations, or networking groups.
  • Demonstrated business development or client expansion experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain steady contact with clients throughout the business year, which involves a thorough knowledge of the client and all facets of the client’s business rather than mere routine attendance to immediate problems
  • Prepare the engagement letter and any subsequent modifications for approval by a manager, answers any questions the client may have so there is a complete understanding of the nature and terms of an assignment, including an estimate of fees, and sees that the engagement letter is signed by the client and returned before the start of the engagement.
  • Review staff assignments, making certain they are appropriate; since this is a continuing duty, the supervisor must be fully familiar with the qualifications of all staff members.
  • Follow the progress of the work during an engagement in relation to budgeted time and scheduled dates of completion, spending as much time as possible with the client’s management group, periodically reviewing the working papers in the field as the job progresses.
  • Determines whether all phases of the engagement are being carried out properly and in the best sequence.
  • Anticipates the problem areas and questions that might arise.
  • Keep the manager and above informed of all important developments in the work, analyzes the major problems that occur and recommends solutions.
  • Prepare staff performance evaluations and discuss them with staff members.
  • Supervise staff during fieldwork on audits, including directing and instructing staff, where applicable, in performing work and reviewing work papers and ensuring the audit work performed supports the audit opinion.
  • Coach staff, evaluating performance, providing on-the-job training, and counseling audit staff to strengthen knowledge/skills/development.
  • Preparing personnel evaluation forms as required/requested.
  • Review the engagement against the budget plan and document and understand the cause for any material variances to plan as a result of conversations with team and overall knowledge of the engagement.
  • Actively seek opportunities to provide additional services to clients.
  • Develop network of referral sources through active involvement in professional and civic organizations.
  • As part of our compliance program, all team members are required to follow industry leading data and system security practices.
