This role involves leading day-to-day department operations, executing strategies to support service delivery and department goals, and driving continuous improvement. The position requires partnering with leadership to achieve revenue and profitability targets, overseeing financial metrics, and managing team performance. The Audit Director will also collaborate with various departments to ensure operational effectiveness, quality assurance, and the successful execution of firm initiatives. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in public accounting, practice operations, professional services operations, or a related leadership role.
  • Public accounting firm experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience partnering with Client Success and other client-facing leadership functions.
  • Experience with budgeting, KPI reporting for a professional services firm, resource planning, workflow management, and operational decision-making in a professional services environment.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with firm leadership, People Operations, Finance, Resource Management, Client Success, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Experience using practice management, project management, time management, workflow, reporting, or similar operational systems.
  • Specific technical knowledge or experience may be required based on the department or practice area supported, including Tax, Assurance, Client Accounting Services (CAS), or other consulting and advisory services.
  • Experience leading process improvement, technology adoption, automation, or AI-enabled workflow initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day department operations and execute strategies that support service delivery, department goals, KPIs, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor workflows, deadlines, service levels, and team output; use dashboards and reporting to improve visibility, accountability, project management, and operational effectiveness.
  • Partner with leadership to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue and profitability goals; monitor key metrics including revenue, productivity, utilization, realization, margin, turnaround time, and capacity.
  • Oversee revenue projections, scheduling variance, and budget-to-actual reporting; collaborate with leadership, Client Success, Marketing/Business Development, and Resource Management to align pipeline, budgets, billing rates, staffing, and scheduling with projected demand and revenue goals.
  • Lead and support assigned team members by setting expectations, managing workloads and priorities, and promoting accountability for performance, deadlines, quality, and service standards.
  • Partner with leadership and Resource Management to allocate work effectively, address performance gaps related to utilization, client service hours, or production goals, and implement action plans as needed.
  • Develop staffing plans and compare budgeted staffing needs to actual capacity; partner with leadership and People Operations to address gaps and support client service commitments.
  • Partner with the Department Head, Principals, and People Operations on employee relations, performance concerns, coaching needs, and related team matters.
  • Support quality assurance and promote accuracy, consistency, timeliness, and adherence to firm service standards, quality management processes, and applicable legal, regulatory, and professional requirements.
  • Collaborate with Department Heads, Principals, Client Success, People Operations, Finance, Resource Management, Marketing/Business Development, and other stakeholders to resolve issues, improve coordination, and execute department and firm initiatives.
