About The Position

The Audiology Lead, for purposes of this contract, is defined as a Licensed Audiologist, Doctoral level, with a minimum of 3 years of experience relevant to completing VA disability examinations. The Audiology Lead is the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in their specialty and responsible for providing leadership, guidance, oversight, and quality assurance to front line Examiners who assist with the provision of Contract Audiology examinations. This position is located in our Fairfax, VA or Lafayette, LA office; however, a hybrid working model is acceptable.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Audiology from an accredited institution.
  • Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in Audiology issued by a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. This applies to all audiologists performing C&P exams within the U.S. and its territories.
  • Must be able to independently perform a full battery of VA required audiologic tests, including: Pure tone air & bone conduction, Comprehensive speech testing (SRT & Word Recognition), Acoustic immittance testing (tympanometry, ipsilateral & contralateral reflexes), Tests for non organicity (e.g., Stenger test), Use of VA approved Maryland CNC word lists for speech recognition.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience performing VA disability examinations, especially those involving: Maryland CNC testing, VA specific tinnitus evaluation, VA unique rating criteria and documentation standards, Understanding of the disability rating implications of audiometric findings.

  • Ability to train and mentor other audiologists in VA specific protocols that differ substantially from routine clinical audiology practice.
  • Capability to function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and act as a “sub medical director” for audiology, providing oversight, quality assurance, and clinical judgment across the examiner network.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee clinical quality and ensure DBQ compliance.
  • Experience advising operational teams and collaborating with program leadership.
  • Ability to review, clarify, and correct examination instructions (ESRs) as needed.
  • Strong communication skills to interface with clinicians, program leadership, and VA representatives.

Responsibilities

  • Expanded Clinical Governance & Quality Oversight: Lead continuous modernization of audiology specific Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) processes and standards as VA requirements evolve. Oversee large scale QA programs, including audit algorithms, automated testing validation, and cross regional quality harmonization. Develop new clinical protocols for emerging VA required audiometric tools, speech recognition standards, or tinnitus evaluation methodologies.
  • Workforce Development & Network Expansion: Build and manage a nationwide cadre of audiologists to support rapid contract growth, surge operations, or new geographic expansions. Create structured training pathways and credentialing programs for providers unfamiliar with VA unique methodologies (e.g., Maryland CNC processes). Mentor future regional Audiology Leads to support distributed organizational scaling.
  • Technology, Innovation & Digital Transformation: Partner with IT teams to modernize testing workflows—including integration of new audiometric devices, secure tele audiology platforms, or automated DBQ completion tools. Serve as clinical co owner for future application enhancements that support audiology specific requirements, consistent with the program's emphasis on proprietary systems evolution. Assess new diagnostic technologies and recommend adoption strategies that comply with VA standards.
  • Strategic Program & Contract Leadership: Advise program leadership on strategic workforce planning, operational risks, and performance improvement opportunities tied to audiology throughput. Participate in client facing engagements with the VA, particularly during quality assurance sessions or performance reviews—similar to how the Medical Director participates today. Support proposal efforts for recompetes, contract expansions, or new VA evaluation programs.
