Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred. Certified as Audiology Assistant or obtain certification within one (1) year of employment.
  • Minimum one year clerical/billing experience in a health care organization.
  • Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures and overall understanding of medical office flow.
  • Knowledge of coding and clinic operating policies.
  • Proficient skills in computer programs.
  • Skill in using a calculator.
  • Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with others
  • Ability to communicate calmly and clearly with patients.
  • Ability to understand and interpret policies and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret medical charts.
  • Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Operate standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copies, printers, telephones, calculators, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Uses customer service principles and techniques to deal with patients calmly and pleasantly.
  • Schedules patient appointments.
  • Calls patients to verify appointments.
  • Assists patients with credit applications.
  • Assists in basic hearing aid cleaning and repair.
  • Prepare contracts and demo (loaner) forms for hearing aids.
  • Process/return hearing aids for repair or credit.
  • Daily cash/invoice tracking and handling.
  • Assists Controller in reconciling monthly cash and expenses associated with audiology program.
  • Maintain inventory and track purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
  • Performs insurance eligibility as necessary.
  • Completes demographic intake in EMR as necessary.
  • Document patient encounters and phone calls in EMR.
  • Coordinates 3rd party visits with vendors regarding hearing aids and inspections.
  • Greets patients and directs them appropriately.
  • Other duties as assigned.
