Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program obtaining a Doctoral degree in Audiology.
  • Have completed the required clinical skills and passed the national exam.
  • American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certification or American Board of Audiology Certification.
  • Valid, unrestricted license for Pennsylvania.
  • Current CPR (BLS) certification.
  • Excellent ability to be able to relate to patients/clients and their families/caregivers the diagnosis of disabilities and audiologic rehabilitation plans.
  • Explain technology and devices that assist children and adults with hearing loss and related disorders.
  • Communicate diagnostic test results and interpret and propose treatment in a manner easily understood by their clients and other professionals.
  • Proficiency in computer technology and applications.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft and EHR applications.
  • Approach problems objectively and provide support to clients and their families (a client's progress may be slow, so patience, compassion, and good listening skills are necessary).
  • Strong orientation to detail and be able to work efficiently.
  • Excellent ability to consult with other professionals and paraprofessionals, the public, and policymakers about the effects of hearing loss, balance disorders, and tinnitus on persons with these disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Defines patient hearing impairment by conferring with referring physician; selecting and administering electrophysiological and other relevant tests; operating diagnostic equipment; determining type and degree of hearing impairment and effects on comprehension and speech; interpreting audiometric diagnostic data; preparing written diagnostic reports.
  • Provides treatments by fitting hearing aids and other assistive devices; conducting auditory training and instruction in speech and lip reading; counseling patients and families; conducting programs in aural rehabilitation; guiding technical staff.
  • Maintains patient records by recording and updating evaluations, changes, progress and treatments.
  • Improves quality results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes; implementing changes; participating in research programs; evaluating new equipment, devices and techniques.
  • Provides auditory evaluations and education by conducting hearing loss screening programs.
  • Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
  • Maintains legal and accreditation compliance by adhering to federal, state and local regulations, and professional standards.
  • Updates job knowledge by tracking trends in new techniques and approaches; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal communication skills.
  • Establishes and maintains positive rapport with patients and families.
  • Use appropriate interpersonal communication skills with peers, supervisors, other KH staff and practitioners.
  • Knows and follows organizational structure.
  • Demonstrates accountability as a member of the health care team.
  • Works within the limits of the KH policy and procedures.
  • Supports the philosophy, objectives, and goals of KH.
  • Assists co-workers in the completion of team responsibilities.

  • Provides notification of absences or tardiness to Clinical Director.
  • Is dependable as demonstrated by good attendance and punctuality.
  • Completes assigned duties in a timely manner. Uses remaining on duty time completing work or KH related activities.
  • Maintains competence in a changeable health care environment.
  • Understands and follows KH fire and safety procedures; knows personal role in case of fire or another emergency.
  • Seeks opportunities for self-growth (attends courses, classes, programs, etc.).
