About The Position

The purpose of this position is to provide general audiovisual setup and operational support for the production and broadcast of live events in the Civic Auditorium located in the Allen Public Library. This is accomplished by setting up, connecting, and disconnecting equipment, mixing live audio, operating a video switcher for a multi-camera setup, and controlling and adjusting lighting on stage during live events for in-person and online audiences. This position interacts with performers, program presenters, rental clients, and library staff and assists with ensuring audience safety as needed. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent with one (1) year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency plus one (1) year of combined relevant training and/or experience.
  • Clear criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen
  • Principles and operation of audiovisual equipment and systems.
  • Live event production, including audio, lighting, and video operations.
  • Safe setup, operation, and troubleshooting of audiovisual equipment.
  • Customer service principles and professional communication.
  • Operating audiovisual equipment, including: Audio mixers and sound systems, Lighting consoles and stage lighting, Video cameras and camera controls, Video switchers, Projection and display equipment, Live streaming and broadcasting software
  • Setting up, connecting, and testing AV equipment.
  • Ability to read instructions from performers, clients, and City staff, operating manuals, and online resources to enhance skills and operate equipment.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and responds to problems and devises solutions during live performances, including changes to audio, lighting, presentation, and staging needs; troubleshoots and corrects equipment anomalies or failures when necessary; and implements actions to ensure audience safety.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical assistance for live events by identifying and deploying the appropriate audiovisual equipment required for each event; ensuring both City-owned equipment and equipment brought in by performers or rental clients are set up, connected, and operated correctly and safely; and operating various types of equipment such as video cameras, video switcher, lighting, and audio controls during the events.
  • Assists with live-event broadcasting by adding titles, credits, and graphics as needed.
  • Provides customer service by interacting with program presenters and performers, rental clients, audience members, and Library staff before, during, and following scheduled events to ensure that program goals and needs are met; ensuring aisles are kept clear for safe ingress and egress; and addressing performer and audience concerns and questions.
