AUDIO VISUAL MEDIA REDACTION SPECIALIST - FOIA Expert
About The Position
The Illinois State Police (ISP) Office of the Director is seeking a detail‑oriented and service‑focused Audio Visual Media Redaction Specialist to join our team. This position will provide specialized administrative and technical support as the FOIA Audio and Visual Expert, overseeing the review, redaction, and release of sensitive electronic media. Serves as the primary technical contact for media transfer and redaction processes, ensuring accurate handling and compliance with FOIA requirements. Manages FOIA case tracking and database systems and assists in developing and updating technical procedures and redaction software manuals to support consistent, compliant workflows. Requirements
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in digital video editing, computer science or a related field.
- Requires prior experience equivalent to two years of progressively responsible professional experience in a public or business organization.
- Successfully pass background investigation.
- Successfully pass drug screen.
- Successfully complete the ISP FOIA Confidentiality Agreement.
- Successfully complete the Illinois Attorney General’s annual FOIA Office Training.
Nice To Haves
- Prefers one year of experience utilizing audio/video redaction software.
- Prefers one year of experience with applying the principals of FOIA.
- Prefers one year of experience independently responding to FOIA video requests.
- Prefers one year of experience working in a FOIA program for a Public Safety or Law Enforcement Agency.
- Prefers one year of experience communicating with both internal and external stakeholders orally and in writing.
- Prefers one year of experience utilizing Microsoft Office products, including but not limited to Access.
- Prefers one year of experience instructing, guiding and training others on the principals of FOIA and/or audio/video redaction.
- Prefers completion of the Illinois Attorney General’s FOIA Officer certification
Responsibilities
- Serves as the Department’s FOIA Audio and Visual Expert and is responsible for the review and redaction of all audio and visual electronic media maintained by the Illinois State Police that is requested under FOIA.
- Serves as the subject matter expert on the release of electronic media (both audio and visual) for the Department.
- Serves as the primary contact regarding technical matters regarding electronic media and its transfer to, redaction by, and transfer from the ISP's FOIA Unit.
- Provides case management and database maintenance for the FOIA Unit to ensure appropriate tracking and reporting of FOIA requests received and FOIA responses provided.
- Assists in the continued revision of new and/or development of technical procedure manuals that includes step-by-step instructions for the use of redaction software for multiple applications.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
