About The Position

As Hippocratic AI’s Audio Transcription Specialist, you will own the quality of transcription data used by the company’s speech systems. The role supports the improvement of AI voice agents by ensuring audio training data is accurate and by helping researchers understand ASR failures. You will establish and refine quality assurance processes, reduce recurring transcription errors, validate audio data pipelines, and provide researchers with categorized evidence to guide and measure ASR improvements. You will work closely with researchers, engineers, and external transcription providers in a fast-moving, high-autonomy team. The role requires working onsite in the Menlo Park office five days a week and handling sensitive audio data according to applicable privacy and data-handling requirements.

  • At least 2 years of experience in transcription, linguistic annotation, audio quality assurance, or a related field.
  • Strong listening skills and attention to detail, including the ability to identify subtle transcription errors.
  • Ability to apply annotation guidelines consistently and exercise sound judgment in ambiguous cases.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to explain errors and provide actionable feedback.
  • Comfort working with sensitive audio data and following data privacy and handling requirements.
  • Ability to work onsite in the Menlo Park office five days a week.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with ASR systems and evaluation metrics such as word error rate (WER).
  • Experience evaluating speech across accents, dialects, noisy environments, or multiple languages.
  • Experience working with external annotation providers or research and engineering teams.
  • Experience identifying recurring quality issues and improving review processes.
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets, SQL, or scripting tools for analyzing quality trends.
  • Experience with healthcare audio or other privacy-sensitive, regulated data.

  • Provide written, actionable feedback to transcription providers and track recurring error patterns.
  • Design, document, and refine QA workflows, review criteria, and transcription guidelines.
  • Implement process changes to address systematic quality gaps in provider output.
  • Test audio processing and annotation pipelines end to end and verify that training data is accurate, consistent, and aligned with human judgments.
  • Analyze audio and transcription errors observed in production ASR systems, document failure patterns, and assess their impact on downstream performance.
  • Develop and maintain an error taxonomy for researchers to identify ASR weaknesses, prioritize improvements, and measure progress.
  • Present quality findings to researchers, engineers, and external providers, and collaborate on improvements to data and systems.
