About The Position

Motorola Solutions is seeking an Audio / Acoustical Engineer to join its Fort Lauderdale, Florida team and help develop industry-leading two-way radio platforms for wireless speech communications. The role contributes to life-saving audio architectures and technologies for first responders, military personnel, and public safety officers working in chaotic, high-noise environments, where mission-critical P25 devices must provide clear and intelligible voice communications. The Audio Solutions team manages, maintains, develops, and improves audio quality across Motorola Solutions. The position spans audio technology lifecycle management, algorithm development, signal-path architecture, product assessment, and testing and validation. It also involves collaboration with Human Factors and Business Teams to evaluate the customer-perceived value of audio technologies. The target base salary range is $80,000–$95,000 USD. Pay within the range depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience; the actual offer is based on the individual candidate. Travel is under 10%.

  • Foundational proficiency in MATLAB or Python.
  • Working knowledge of compiled systems programming languages such as C or C++.
  • Exposure to writing and optimizing digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms.
  • Fundamental practical understanding of physical sound behavior, speaker and microphone mechanics, and foundational psychoacoustic concepts.
  • Ability to organize clear technical documentation, specifications, and reports using Google Workspace or Microsoft Office 365.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Self-starter attitude and initiative to tackle ambiguous problems and drive solutions.

  • Hands-on experience using digital audio workstations such as Adobe Audition, Audacity, or other audio editing tools.
  • Theoretical grounding and practical familiarity with machine learning frameworks and data-driven models applied to audio processing tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain foundational audio technologies and processing algorithms to support reliable, high-quality acoustic performance across hardware platforms.
  • Assist in developing new approaches and algorithms for audio signal processing and machine learning.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of audio signal paths that dynamically balance noise suppression, microphone gain, wind porting, and speaker equalization in real time, with a focus on intelligibility.
  • Benchmark product performance using speech clarity and intelligibility metrics.
  • Conduct laboratory and field testing to measure speech intelligibility, frequency response, and acoustic distortion in high-decibel background environments.
  • Collaborate with Human Factors and Business Teams to evaluate the customer-perceived value of new audio technologies.
