About The Position

Responsible for case assignments from inception to resolution; to appear in the courts in all venues in the metropolitan area, conduct EUOS and arbitrations. The position also includes motion work and preparing master arbitration documents with the AAA. This role involves responding to emails and telephone messages promptly, providing court appearance dates to legal staff, and reporting timely to the managing attorney and claims supervisor/examiner. The attorney will research the law to stay current on liability, regulatory issues, and insurance coverage, and provide legal advice to HIC to facilitate the speedy resolution of lawsuits. Additionally, the attorney will cover court appearances or depositions for colleagues when necessary, document all file activity, and alert the managing attorney to any file-related issues such as defaults, preclusion orders, or judgments.

  • Provide all court appearance dates to the legal staff member assigned to such task
  • Provide timely reports to the managing attorney with respect to court and deposition appearances
  • Provide timely reports to the claims supervisor or examiner assigned to the case
  • Research the law to remain current on issues of liability and regulatory issues, insurance coverage, etc.
  • Provide legal advice to HIC with respect to liability, current law, etc. to encourage the speedy resolution of lawsuits
  • Appear in the courts in all venues in the metropolitan area or at a deposition on cases that are assigned to other attorneys in the office who may not be available to appear on their own case
  • Timely document all activity on the file in the activity log of the file
  • Alert the managing attorney of any problems arising in connection with his or her file, i.e. defaults, preclusion orders, orders striking the answer, judgments, excess verdicts, etc.
