The Unified Government Legal Department offers a unique range of opportunities within the legal profession. Attorneys in this department provide legal opinions to elected officials, the County Administrator, and UG and BPU staff. The team's mission is to deliver high-quality, cost-effective legal services to the unified city and county government, the Board of Public Utilities, and various other boards and commissions. Responsibilities include managing or overseeing litigation involving the UG, BPU, or their representatives, reviewing and preparing contracts, and drafting and reviewing policies, ordinances, and resolutions. The department also handles claims, tax appeal cases, and delinquent tax sales, acquires property through eminent domain, and prosecutes city ordinance violations in Municipal Court. This is a collaborative environment with no billable hours, offering a unique work experience. The selected candidate will focus on labor and employment matters, other workplace-related legal issues, contract review, civil litigation representation for UG departments, and legal training, providing variety and professional development.
