About The Position

Hennessy & Roach, P.C. seeks an attorney to defend workers’ compensation and general liability cases in Illinois, based in the firm’s Springfield, Illinois office. The firm defends employers in workers’ compensation matters and defendants in general liability matters. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Requirements

• J.D. and proof of admission to the Illinois bar.
• Experience in workers’ compensation or general liability defense work.
• Working knowledge of legal principles and practices.
• In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology.

Nice To Haves

• Passing the bar in another Midwest state.

Responsibilities

• Conduct discovery.
• Draft pleadings, findings of fact, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
• Litigate workers’ compensation or general liability cases before an administrative law judge.
• Represent the interests of employers or insurers at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings.
• Monitor loss run reports for trends and increases and alert management to concerns.
• Assist with the investigation of accidents and problem areas.
• Manage workers’ compensation costs to reduce liability.
• Compile and submit reports required by company management.
• Coordinate and attend claims reviews.
• Negotiate settlements on behalf of the insurance company or employer.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
