About The Position

Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio (LASCO) is seeking a dedicated and professional Attorney to provide comprehensive legal services for civil issues in alignment with LASCO's mission. The role involves balancing systemic advocacy with direct legal representation. Attorneys will offer legal counsel and advice, as well as direct representation in areas such as housing, public benefits, tax, domestic, consumer, education, employment, and re-entry. Collaboration with partner organizations through special projects and grants is also a key aspect of this position.

  • English language proficiency
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to the Bar of the State of Ohio (or expected to obtain admission within 12 months from date of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Handle all functions related to legal advocacy, from intake to client representation before local, state, appellate, and federal courts, and relevant agencies.
  • Maintain a caseload that includes both direct service and impact work.
  • Participate in substantive teams focused on in-depth legal area learning and addressing systemic issues.
  • Participate in outreach activities, clinics, and other community events.
  • Collaborate with other legal services attorneys on statewide advocacy.
  • Promote community relations and build community relationships by engaging with the public and partner service providers.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, including CLE-approved trainings on substantive poverty law and advocacy skills.
