About The Position

This is an Attorney Supervisor Assistant Attorney General position within the Office of the Attorney General, Civil Legal Services – Child Support Enforcement. The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts, from trial courts to the Supreme Court of the United States.

Requirements

  • Admission to the Florida Bar
  • Six years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law or in administrative or judicial hearings
  • Two years of which must have been in a supervisory or managerial position.
  • A degree of Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Membership in the Florida Bar

Responsibilities

  • Manages, directs, and coordinates the operation, planning, development, and evaluation of their office.
  • Implements, maintains compliance with, and enforces agency, division, and DOR-CSE policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and ensures execution of all personnel actions for their office, including (but not limited to) supervising personnel, hiring, discipline, performance reviews, workflow approvals, workload distributions, etc.
  • Monitors workflow of office to ensure all performance accountability measures and/or legal deadlines for cases are met.
  • Oversees the maintenance of the case tracking system for all assigned cases.
  • Advises Bureau Chief of any issues that may affect their office or the bureau; Provides recommendations for solving issues.
  • Proposes improvements to procedures for office and/or bureau. Acts on behalf of Bureau Chief as directed/assigned.
  • Maintains regular contact with all internal and external partners (client, judges, judicial assistants, bailiffs, court clerks, court administrators, etc.); Coordinates meetings with internal and external partners as needed to ensure the goals of the CSE Program are being met.
  • Attends trial litigation, mediations, and any other court related appearances in circuit court and DOAH as needed.
  • Acts as lead trial attorney on all complex and/or high-profile cases and keeps Bureau Chief updated on their case status.
  • Advises Bureau Chief of any cases requiring appellate action; Follows all agency/bureau procedures for requesting appellate authorization.
  • Reviews and signs documents generated by staff that are filed with the court, submitted to counsel, and/or the judiciary to ensure legal sufficiency or appropriateness before signing.
  • Conducts complex legal research and interprets statutes, regulations, rules, and operating procedures.
  • Provides legal advice and information to the client.
  • Provides hands-on training to all new attorney hires.
  • Provides assistance and/or direction to all attorneys as needed.
  • Observes court and office processes to monitor employees, partners, and processes/procedures.
  • Performs related work as needed or directed by Bureau Chief.
