About The Position

ClientEarth is an international environmental legal organization that works on the full suite of environmental issues globally. ClientEarth Americas is an independent 501(c)(3) organization that works in strategic partnership with ClientEarth Group, a UK-headquartered international group of entities. At ClientEarth Americas, we aim to use litigation to bring about a world where no one profits from harming others or the planet, and capital flows are aligned with long-term planetary and human well-being. We currently have a vacancy in our team for a Litigation Attorney who will be part of a vibrant and expanding legal and supporting team of 25 that uses multiple leverage points to integrate climate-related risks and externalities into the laws that govern businesses and economic systems. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Requirements

  • Law degree and admission to practice in at least one US state (essential)
  • Junior to mid-level experience at a law firm, legal NGO, or government role (essential)
  • Litigation experience, including in state and federal courts (essential)

Responsibilities

  • Participating in all phases of U.S. litigation, from idea generation to scoping, investigating, evaluating, and supporting the initiation of litigation, and supporting the advancement of litigation through discovery, trial, and settlement, in consultation with team members and managers.
  • Developing and nurturing relationships with partner organizations and other stakeholders, with guidance from team members and managers.
  • Preparing high-quality written work that effectively communicates to a wide variety of legal, policy, political, financial, civil society and interdisciplinary audiences.
  • Representing ClientEarth’s work externally as delegated, including participation in forums, conferences, webinars, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Supporting donor engagement and fundraising efforts where appropriate, including contributing to funding proposals and aligning narratives with organizational strategy and impact.
