About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has an exciting opportunity for an attorney to join our team and provide legal support to DHHS’ general operational needs, with a primary focus on employment and labor law. Primary responsibilities include providing advice and counsel to management and programs as part of Legal Services’ Operations Team to include representing DHHS in employment matters. Other duties may include developing responses to tort/contract/miscellaneous claims made against DHHS, collecting debt on behalf of DHHS, compliance, procurement and contracting, discovery, and public records responses and retention.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies.
  • Must be admitted to the Nebraska Bar.

  • Legal experience with employment and labor relations, litigation, and/or ethics and compliance.
  • Excellent legal research and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate the legal effect of labor contracts or other transactional documents.
  • Analyze the application of relevant law to specific facts.
  • Recognize the impact of developing legislation and case law on the agency and its programs.
  • Interpret complex federal and state constitutional, statutory, and regulatory law.
