About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Justice, led by the Attorney General of North Carolina, represents the state, state agencies, and elected officials, and defends the rights of the people of North Carolina. The Department handles all state criminal appeals cases and assists district attorneys with complex criminal cases at their request. Additionally, the Department of Justice includes the North Carolina State Crime Lab, the North Carolina Justice Academy, and the Sheriffs’ and Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Divisions. This posting is for two vacant Attorney II positions. The primary purpose of the Attorney II position is to individually litigate cases from start to finish in state and federal court. The Attorney II provides professional litigation services, legal analysis, and meaningful legal advice to mid-level, senior, and executive managers of client agencies and internally at NC DOJ. The client agencies include the Department of Public Safety, State Highway Patrol, State Bureau of Investigation, and Adult Corrections, among others. The Attorney II may also serve as co-counsel to other attorneys in the section on routine and complex matters in the areas of civil rights law. The Attorney II shares responsibility with several other attorney positions for providing all legal support services and such other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar
  • One year of professional legal experience
