About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Justice, led by the Attorney General of North Carolina, represents the state, state agencies, and elected officials, and defends the rights of the people of North Carolina. The Department handles all state criminal appeals cases and assists district attorneys with complex criminal cases at their request. Additionally, the Department of Justice includes the North Carolina State Crime Lab, the North Carolina Justice Academy, and the Sheriffs’ and Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Divisions. This position will provide legal support regarding Medicaid managed care transformation; contracting support including reviewing and negotiating contracts, addressing contract performance issues, providing legal advice on procurements and evaluations, assistance with contract performance issues; review of communication materials and other documents; responding to public record requests and subpoenas; responding to CMS, OIG, and OSA inquiries/audits; and member and provider appeals and grievances. This position may require minimal travel with possible overnight stays.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar.
  • One year of professional legal experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with contracts (including, but not limited to, drafting, compliance issues and litigation).
  • Knowledge of Medicaid and other public assistance programs.
  • Experience providing analysis, interpretation, and advice on federal regulations and/or federally funded programs.
