About The Position

Lowenstein Sandler is a sophisticated law firm with over 400 lawyers and 300 business services professionals across multiple offices in the United States. The firm fosters a collaborative, entrepreneurial culture that prioritizes clients, colleagues, and communities, offering numerous programs for personal and professional growth. This role is within the business services group and focuses on attorney development, specifically for junior corporate Associates in their first and second years of practice. The Attorney Development Manager (ADM) is responsible for optimizing Associate integration, engagement, skills development, retention, and overall experience. The ADM will implement firm-wide and practice-tailored initiatives, working collaboratively with the Practice Manager, PD Team, and other business services functions to align development efforts with practice and firm goals.

Requirements

  • Juris-doctorate degree
  • 5+ years of experience in a Professional Development Function or in a law firm management role significantly aligned with PD
  • Demonstrated ability to align people initiatives to firm growth and client objectives
  • Knowledge of general corporate practices
  • Demonstrated success and experience in managing by relationship and results
  • Proven ability to be a positive member of a management team
  • Strong business acumen and industry knowledge
  • Significant experience with data management and analysis (e.g., spreadsheets, databases)
  • Exceptional executive presence, judgment, and relationship building skills
  • Ability to deal with partners and senior leaders within the law firm setting
  • Active involvement in change management initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to efficiently communicate with senior management

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor within the group, understanding the practice, its clients, and its members.
  • Conduct regular 1:1 check-ins with Associates to understand their career goals, needs, strengths, and interests.
  • Facilitate Associate access to and engagement with training, mentorship, sponsorship, coaching, and other PD programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Practice Leaders to manage work allocation that meets client needs, optimizes attorney utilization, and enhances Associate development.
  • Collaborate with Practice Leaders, Practice Managers, and Recruiting to ensure exceptional onboarding, orientation, and integration experiences for Associates.
  • Support Associates during and after secondments or leaves of absence, and collaborate on successful transitions.
  • Manage aspects of the Associate performance management process, including scheduling, preparing for roundtables, ensuring progress on action items, and facilitating feedback.
  • Track, analyze, and report on Associate metrics related to engagement, productivity, and career growth.
  • Conduct practice-tailored training needs assessments and collaborate on the delivery of relevant training.
  • Identify 1:1 coaching opportunities for Associates.
  • Implement measures to foster an innovative, growth mindset and encourage the adoption of new tools and processes.
  • Collaborate with Business Development and PD on external professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in leadership groups and meetings.
  • Collaborate with various teams to optimize the group's brand and foster a culture of inclusion, humanity, and wellness.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with the firmwide Business Services Group (BSG) Team.
  • Ensure Associates secure and maintain bar admissions.
  • Maintain and organize program and project documentation.
  • Seek timely solutions to work conflicts and priorities and initiate follow-up.
