The Virginia Indigent Defense Commission (VIDC) is seeking an Assistant Public Defender I to join their Suffolk office. This role is dedicated to protecting and defending the rights and dignity of clients through zealous, compassionate, and high-quality legal advocacy. The position is on the front lines of criminal justice and justice reform, offering a unique platform to develop and pursue social change. The attorney will handle criminal cases for adults and juveniles in various stages of litigation, reporting to the Chief Public Defender. The role requires compassion for indigent clients, excellent legal skills, the ability to identify and anticipate legal issues, proficiency in writing and editing motions and briefs, and the capability to make sound legal arguments in court. The position also demands the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
