About The Position

The Northeastern Judicial Circuit is hiring an Assistant Public Defender IV in Hall County to represent indigent clients in criminal matters before Superior Court. This expert-level attorney handles serious, high-profile, and complex felony cases, including the most significant matters assigned within the office. The attorney independently manages all aspects of litigation, including case strategy, investigation, motion practice, trial preparation, and courtroom advocacy. The position requires advanced legal judgment, strong trial skills, and the ability to navigate complex legal and factual issues. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Juris Doctorate in a related area from an accredited college or university, and a license to practice law in Georgia; alternatively, eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination, followed by passing the exam and obtaining Georgia licensure within one year of hiring, or reciprocity.
Three years of relevant legal experience, or three years of experience at the lower-level Attorney 3.
Substantial criminal litigation and jury trial experience.
Good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.
Strong commitment to indigent defense work.

Responsibilities

Represent indigent clients in criminal matters before Superior Court.
Prepare and try cases, negotiate and enter pleas, conduct legal research, and draft and present complex legal documents such as pleadings and orders.
Provide competent, diligent, and zealous legal representation.
Handle serious, high-profile, and complex felony cases, including the most significant matters assigned within the office.
Independently manage litigation, including case strategy, investigation, motion practice, trial preparation, and courtroom advocacy.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
