About The Position

The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Attorney 4 to join its Legal Section. This senior legal professional will lead OJJ’s most sophisticated legal matters, provide expert counsel to agency leadership, and represent the department in litigation, administrative hearings, and high-level policy development. The role offers a high degree of independence, professional trust, and the opportunity to mentor and guide lower-ranking attorneys. Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law
  • Three years of experience as a practicing attorney
  • Must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15:587.1 (c)
  • Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License
  • Must clear a background check

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in juvenile law or related fields
  • Experience with Civil Service hearings and appeals
  • Experience in litigation and policy development

Responsibilities

  • Lead attorney for internal disciplinary processes, including reviewing investigative reports, maintaining disciplinary records, drafting and approving disciplinary letters, settlement agreements, and representing OJJ in Civil Service hearings and appeals.
  • Represent the Deputy Secretary in complex litigation before federal, state, and city courts.
  • Prepare motions, pleadings, briefs, and appellate work; interview staff, youth, and witnesses; provide legal counsel to regional offices and facilities.
  • Review criminal records of potential detention center employees.
  • Analyze and interpret legislation impacting the agency; serve on committees as needed.
  • Provide assistance to other agency attorneys and serve as Ethics Liaison.
  • Conduct training on disciplinary processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.
