About The Position

The Public Utility Commission is looking for a highly responsible and motivated attorney in our Office of Administrative Law Judge. The Mediator manages a portfolio of assigned cases, facilitates resolution, and reviews appropriate pleadings to determine which cases are appropriate for the mediation program. Assignments involve working independently and, where necessary, directly with the Mediation Coordinator. As a more experienced mediator, you will be assigned mediation cases that involve more complex issues and multiple parties. Such work requires the exercise of independent judgment and minimum supervision. Supervision is received from the Mediation Coordinator, who is responsible for the operation of the Mediation Unit and the Mediation Processes.

Requirements

  • Two years of professional legal experience and graduation from an accredited school of law; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants must be certified for admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and must maintain membership on a continuous basis during employment
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Determine which cases qualify for mediation and initiate interim orders as needed
  • Evaluate legal principles and research laws, regulations, and policies tied to mediation and public utility matters
  • Conduct mediation sessions and assess legal and non-legal viewpoints to support resolution
  • Create forms and letters with the Mediation Coordinator and assist in training staff on mediation procedures
  • Recommend policy changes based on independent research and review training materials
  • Arrange conferences, interviews, and virtual meetings using Microsoft Teams
