About The Position

Direct Support Professionals, also known as Attendant Counselors, are compassionate about the well-being of our residents. With the main focus of providing support, guidance, and care for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. In this role, you will serve as shift charge in our Intermediate Care Facility and will provide leadership and instruction to employees in the provision of daily living activities, behavioral, social-emotional, and recreational support for the residents. Requirements

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work with residents who exhibit challenging behavior, with dual diagnoses or developmental disability

High school diploma or GED AND two years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
Or, High school graduation or GED AND two years of experience as an Attendant Counselor 1, equivalent or higher-level state class.

Responsibilities

As a shift charge, you'll give verbal and written feedback/coaching, monitor employees, and ensure that care is provided according to each residents’ Individual Habilitation Plan (IHP).
Ensure care issues, environmental and other pertinent information is communicated timely and to appropriate people.
Provide the necessary feedback to Attendant Counselor Manager for Resident Personal Development Plan input.
Train and assist residents in their own self-care including bathing, dressing, laundry, household skills, and financial management by promoting residents’ independence.
Observe, document and report changes in each residents’ physical/mental condition or unusual behaviors.
Accompany and supervise residents ensuring health and safety of the residents to/from and during activities, community events, appointments, eating, and shopping, etc.
Assist with any resident medical and behavioral emergencies.
Responsible for guiding employees and others in the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and in following all infection control policies and procedures.
