About The Position

Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees. This position is a temporary casual hire position and offers no benefits, 89 day hire, not to exceed 40 hours/week. Hours may vary.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree.
  • Some experience working in a collegiate athletic equipment room or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to lift athletic equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work effectively and under pressure, with frequent interruptions and remain flexible in handling several concurrent projects with competing deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to travel with the sports team(s) as required.
  • Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner.
  • Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawaii Driver’s license (class 3) or comparable driver’s license, or other means of transportation, which meets position needs.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing student-athletes equipment, supplies, and accessories as needed and ensures its worthiness to safeguard each individual by systematic maintenance and repair of equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for training and supervising student-assistants ensuring the Equipment Room is clean and orderly.
  • Help setting up and storing equipment for sports programs practices.
  • Laundering of sports apparel and uniforms after practice and event.
  • Responsible for securing equipment room after normal working hours and event.
  • Maintain a collaborative and positive working relationships with administrators, coaches, student-athletes, vendors, and other college offices, and appropriate relationships with members of the media, donors, and other individuals interested in the sports programs.
  • Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with federal and state laws and University of Hawaii policies.
  • Know, recognize, and comply with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawai‘i and its employees, and the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and of the affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future.
  • Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if there is reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees, students, or others have occurred or will occur.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
