About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Director of Recreation Center and Athletics Operations, the Head Coach is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the specific sports program. The Head Coach provides effective leadership, recruitment, coaching, and monitoring of student-athletes to encourage and promote high academic standards and team performance. The Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the intercollegiate program, including planning of annual competition schedule, practice schedules, program administration, and providing for the health, safety, and academic progress of the student-athletes involved in the program. In conjunction with the Director of Recreation Center and Athletics Operations, the Head Coach works with departments to ensure facilities, equipment, and schedules are adequate for the program’s needs.

Requirements

Must have a Bachelor's degree.
Must have a minimum of two (2) years of coaching experience at the collegiate level or equivalent.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Must have knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations.
Must have excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Must be able to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree preferred.
Experience in recruiting and player development.
Experience with social media and public relations.

Responsibilities

Provides vision, leadership, organization, and supervision for all facets of the intercollegiate sport program to ensure a highly competitive and successful program by utilizing appropriate player development, game management, and program oversight techniques.
Develops and implements program philosophy within the guidelines of all rules and policies by Texas Southmost College, its Athletics Office, Region XIV Conference and the NJCAA in accordance with the academic standards, stated mission, and goals of Texas Southmost College.
Works collaboratively with Admissions, Financial Aid, and other departments to ensure appropriate registration, admission, and other administrative processing of student-athletes.
Monitors student-athletes’ academic program.
Provides effective leadership to student-athletes to encourage high academic standards, player development, leadership development, team development, community involvement, positive representation of the college, and competitive performance.
Develops, manages and oversees the intercollegiate sports program operations effectively, ethically, and innovatively in accordance with department and college guidelines.
Provides administrative oversight for all aspects of the program including team travel, practice schedule, competition schedule, and game management.
Coordinates strength and conditioning regimens for injury prevention.
Scouts opponents to develop effective game strategies.
Adheres to conference regulations regarding film exchange and statistical reporting.
Recruits student-athletes of good character, academically prepared, and of a quality skill level needed to be competitive within the parameters of the NJCAA regulations.
Recruits and retains student-athletes that will positively represent the college both academically and as an athletic team member.
Develops effective recruiting channels.
Communicates and actively engages the necessary college departments/parties such as Financial Aid, Admissions, and the Director of Recreation Center and Athletics Operations when offering scholarships.
Works collaboratively with the Director of Recreation Center and Athletics Operations and facilities personnel in the use, care, and maintenance of facilities, and accept responsibility for team athletic equipment and related inventories.
Works with college departments to obtain authorization to purchase new equipment and supplies in accordance with college policy.
Participates in program and departmental social media outreach, public relations, and promotional efforts.
Supports, plans, and works with the TSC Foundation to promote specific program fundraising and scholarship funds.
Attends all mandatory TSC , Region XIV , and NJCAA meetings; stay knowledgeable of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to the intercollegiate sports program.
Maintains strict adherence to all TSC policies, procedures, and regulations.
Serves on campus-wide committees and builds relationships across campus as well as within the local community.
Displays continued commitment to engage in professional development opportunities.
Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Texas Southmost College ( TSC ).
Other duties as assigned.
