About The Position

The Director of Athletics and Operations coordinates, implements, and evaluates the athletic program at the secondary level in accordance with the school policies, Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) rules, and conference league policies. This position also manages all aspects of the facility and maintenance program. Additionally, the position is responsible for implementing and executing school security efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with administrative and/or coaching experience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, and organizational skills.
  • Solid working knowledge of CHSAA and conference league rules and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that coaches and players are trained on and adhere to the CHSAA rules.
  • Verify that all athletes are medically cleared, have been released by parents, and have paid the sports registration fee.
  • Verify that all athletes are academically eligible to compete, and ensure only those eligible participate in competition.
  • Ensure that the athletic program meets League and CHSAA regulations.
  • Responsible for the development of a schedule of varsity, junior varsity, and junior high athletic events, in accordance with CHSAA and league guidelines.
  • Ensure certification of coaching staff in accordance with CHSAA guidelines.
  • Promotion and recognition of teams and athletics through assemblies, announcements, eBlasts, Vanguard Voice, and other communication avenues.
  • Keep records of all awards/letters issued.
  • Coordinate the ordering of letters, and awards.
  • Coordinate the transportation, lodging, and logistics for all athletic programs.
  • Prepare a master sports calendar that includes conference and non-conference games/events.
  • Schedule and confirm all officials for 7-12 contests.
  • Arrange volunteers for athletic contests, to include announcers, clock operators, score keepers, line judges, etc.
  • Serve as the “Administrator on Duty” at all home games.
  • Respond to all staff concerns regarding athletics.
  • Works closely with the staff and administration to develop and enforce an athletic/academic code of conduct which is consistent with the goals of the staff, administration, and the school.
  • Requisition all equipment and uniforms.
  • Ensure care of athletic facilities.
  • Provide adequate practice and playing facilities.
  • Coordinate gym, building and athletic field use.
  • Annually review and update all policies related to the athletic program; revise and publish Coaches Handbook and Athletic/Activities Handbook annually.
  • Maintain archive of sports statistics.
  • Troubleshoot the day to day operation of the secondary athletic program.
  • Responsible for the orientation and training of all coaches regarding site and school policies, procedures and expectations.
  • Assist in the selection of coaches for the athletic program, coordinate with Human Resources to post jobs for coaching positions and participate in the interview and hiring process.
  • Evaluate all athletic programs including coaching on an annual basis.
  • Make recommendations for improvement to the Secondary Principal.
  • Mediate the resolution of problems, issues, and concerns involving the athletic department.
  • Attend athletic conference meetings.
  • Positively represents the school and its mission to the students, parents, colleagues, and general public.
  • Conduct parent meetings to inform parents of expectations, procedures, and rules.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, utilizing and explaining the proper chain of communication.
  • As needed or assigned.
