About The Position

The Athletic Trainer works in the clinic setting coordinating and providing patient care in the physicians practice, which may include first assistant in surgery. The Athletic Trainer provides coverage for outreach events. This position works cooperatively and is actively engaged in the teaching of residents, athletic trainers, and other students.

Requirements

Athletic Trainer certification from the North Dakota Board of Athletic Training prior to start date.
Athletic Trainer certification from the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice within 6 months of start date.
Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 90 days of start date.
Completion of competency assessment and credentialing through Altru Health System’s credentialing process to function as an Athletic Trainer in the Operating Room.
Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Responsibilities

Assists and provides patient education involving the whole patient care and treatment plan according to validated skill level.
Performs and functions as a first assistant by demonstrating appropriate skill level of procedures under the supervision of the Orthopedic Physician.
Applies and removes all types of casts, appropriate dressings, splints, traction and other orthopedic appliances and equipment.
Provides event coverage and sports related education and training.
Performs on-site injury assessment and treatment including first aid and Basic Life Support (BLS).
Performs injury prevention services through identification of predisposing conditions and utilization of protective taping and bracing.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
