About The Position

This is a full-time position working at and with an area high school as part of the athletic program. Hours will vary based on sporting events throughout the year. Weekend hours will be required as needed to cover sporting events. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and management of athletic injuries and conditions for athletes and active individuals served through assigned outreach programs, physician practices, schools, sports teams, or hospital-affiliated programs. Working under the direction of a licensed physician and within the scope of state practice regulations, the Athletic Trainer develops and implements injury prevention and rehabilitation programs, provides emergency response and first aid, and promotes safe participation in athletic and physical activities. The Athletic Trainer collaborates with physicians, coaches, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to support optimal recovery, performance, and return-to-play outcomes. This role also supports documentation, program coordination, equipment management, and community outreach initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in athletic training or related field (Required)
  • AT - Certified Athletic Trainer licensed, registered or certified in the state of practice Upon Hire (Required)
  • ATC - Athletic Trainer Cert by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATA/BOC) Upon Hire (Required)
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Within Facility-Specified time frame (Required)
  • Knowledge of athletic injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency response techniques.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and sports medicine principles.
  • Ability to assess injuries and make appropriate clinical decisions in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to educate athletes, families, and staff regarding treatment and injury prevention.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Proficient computer and documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in athletic training or healthcare related field (Preferred)
  • 1+ years experience in a clinical, orthopedic, or sports medicine setting (Preferred)
  • Prior Experience working with school athletics, sports medicine programs, physician practices, or outreach programs (Preferred)
  • Education in related fields may include Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, or Physical Education, consistent with applicable state regulations and accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates athletic injuries and conditions and determines appropriate treatment, referral, or rehabilitation plans.
  • Provides injury prevention services including taping, bracing, conditioning programs, and education on safe athletic participation.
  • Administers therapeutic interventions and physical modalities in accordance with physician-approved protocols and state regulations.
  • Responds to athletic injuries and medical emergencies during practices, games, and events using established emergency procedures.
  • Collaborates with physicians, physical therapists, coaches, and other healthcare professionals regarding athlete care and return-to-play decisions.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, treatments, rehabilitation progress, and incident reports.
  • Educates athletes, families, coaches, and staff regarding injury prevention, rehabilitation, nutrition, hydration, and wellness practices.
  • Monitors athlete progress and modifies rehabilitation programs based on recovery status and physician guidance.
  • Ensures proper cleaning, maintenance, and inventory of athletic training equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with development and implementation of athletic training policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Supports outreach initiatives, sports medicine programs, and community education activities as assigned.
  • Maintains compliance with organizational policies, HIPAA requirements, professional standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication with patients, athletes, physicians, coaches, and staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
