Requirements

  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned department.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.
  • Licensed Athletic Trainer
  • BLS Certification (or capable of obtaining)

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience in a hospital based physical therapy department, sports medicine clinic, high school or collegiate athletic training, and/or fitness screening through Wellness Program.

Responsibilities

  • Works with physical therapy staff in the evaluation and treatment of patients in all age groups.
  • Attends Sport Clinics and extends service to designated area high schools and colleges.
  • Initiates the history documentation of patient for the therapist to evaluate.
  • Administers therapy procedures directed toward specific rehabilitation goals.
  • Maintains medical records for each patient treated according to department policies.
  • Participates in Sports Clinics on weekdays and weekends and provides holiday patient coverage as scheduled.
  • Instructs the visiting public, allied health and medical students, other professionals, aides and volunteers in the objectives and methods within area of expertise.
  • Develops own clinical skills through participation and contribution to department activities.
  • Maintains professional certification through continuing education.
  • Functions as a patient advocate and maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Assists in coverage of patients when other staff members are absent, and provides coverage for own patients prior to scheduled leave.
  • Evaluates injuries and provides rehabilitative treatment as determined by team or family physician.
  • Supervises the training room.
  • Provides emergency care follow-up for injuries.
  • Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Provides injury prevention techniques for coaches, athletes and parents.
  • Provides coverage for scheduled sporting events.
  • Supervises Athletic Trainer students on clinical affiliation as requested (after one year's experience).
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and standards of behaviors as well as encourages, coaches, and monitors the same in team members.
  • Consistently promote teamwork and direct communication with co-workers and deal discretely and sensitively with confidential information.
  • Contribute by identifying problems and seeking solutions.
  • Promote patient/family satisfaction where possible; participates in departmental efforts to monitor and report customer service.
