This position is located at Duke Orthopaedics of Apex.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or equivalent from a CAATE accredited program required
  • NATABOC Certification (National Athletic Trainers Association-Board of Certification) is required

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to remove cast
  • Ability to apply basic splints and cast to the upper and lower extremity
  • Ability to accurately fit all DME products used in the clinic
  • Certain athletic trainers will be assigned the responsibilities to evaluate patients during their first post-operative visit.

  • Documenting 1st pass HPI
  • Charting
  • Answering phone calls
  • Completing forms
  • Teaching HEP (Home Exercise Program)
  • Walking with crutches
  • Prepping clinics
  • Obtaining test results
  • Updating charts
  • Verifying insurance
  • Obtaining authorizations
  • Coordinating referrals and appointments
  • Cleaning exam rooms
  • Ordering and stocking supplies
  • Restocking exam rooms
  • Cleaning exam tables
  • Maintaining a safe work environment by checking for expired supplies and medications
  • Emptying sharps containers
  • Promoting patient rights
  • Responding to emergency codes
  • Following HR, Compliance and Joint Commission policies
  • Autoclaving
  • Checking vital signs
  • Suture removal
  • Dressing changes
  • Entering orders based on physician protocols
  • Handling biohazard waste
  • Applying DME (Durable Medical Equipment) to a patient
  • Removing casts
  • Applying basic splints and casts to the upper and lower extremity
  • Accurately fitting all DME products used in the clinic
  • Evaluating patients during their first post-operative visit (physician or APP must be present)
  • Generating notes that will be co-signed by the MD or APP
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager or HCA
