The Athletic Trainer - Orthopedic Immediate Care is responsible for performing injury assessments and referring patients for necessary care. This role involves communicating with patients to triage, answer questions, and instruct in self-care, prevention, and treatment. The Athletic Trainer also communicates with the Physician and medical team to help determine the need for special tests or services, establishes a plan of care, and implements individual treatment based on evaluation results, health goals, and appropriate techniques. They monitor and evaluate outcomes, adjust treatment plans based on patient response, and recognize potential issues, advocating for the patient by working with the physician and/or key professionals. The role also involves identifying factors affecting patient's physical and psychosocial comfort, planning and completing patient after-visit summaries, including providing written home exercise programs, patient/family teaching, referral for community services, and ordering equipment. All required documentation must be completed following department policy. The position requires performing various patient positioning, transferring, and transporting duties, which involve lifting and pushing/pulling while utilizing proper technique. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, including understanding principles of growth and development over the life span and assessing data reflective of patient status to identify age-specific needs.
