About The Position

Laredo Technical Services, Inc. (LTSI) is seeking an Athletic Trainer to provide services at the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) in New London, CT. The USCGA supports an NCAA Division III athletic program with over 600 student-athletes across 25 sports. This is a full-time position requiring the Athletic Trainer to support various athletic events, practices, health and physical education classes, and summer training programs.

Requirements

  • Current certifications with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Medicine from an accredited College or University.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as an Athletic Trainer.
  • A current unrestricted license to practice Athletic Trainer Services per the Connecticut state licensing boards.
  • Maintain current certification as required for membership in the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).
  • Maintain certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI), or the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).
  • No adverse information on file with the National Practitioners Data Bank (NPDB).
  • Physically capable of performing all athletic training services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide certified athletic training services for assigned home and away athletic contests, including pre-competition setup, athlete treatment, on-site injury evaluation and care, and post-competition documentation.
  • Provide athletic training support services for all varsity sports practices, including athlete physical rehabilitation and injury assessments.
  • Provide athletic training support services for health and physical education (HPE) classes and physical fitness exams (PFE), including first aid and on-site medical support during exams.
  • Conduct heat index monitoring and ensure adequate hydration for cadets during PFE events and other activities.
  • Provide athletic training services during the USCGA’s eight-week Swab Summer training program.
  • Collaborate with the Government to develop level of coverage plans for Swab Summer based on defined needs.
  • Set up and maintain adequate hydration stations during physical fitness testing, Swab Summer events, and athletic practices and competitions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
