About The Position

This is a 1.0 FTE position at Wakefield High School for the 2026-27 school year. The role involves providing athletic training services to student athletes, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, counseling, and administrative duties. The Athletic Trainer works under the direct supervision of the athletic trainer and general supervision of the Director of Student Activities. This position also requires collaboration with medical professionals, school district staff, athletes, and parents.

Requirements

  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure as a Certified Athletic Trainer.
  • Ability and willingness to work as a team member with general education staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computers and variety of software used in athletic training services program (ie. IMPACT, SIMS, etc.).
  • Experience teaching high school students.

Nice To Haves

  • Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area, is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses.
  • Evaluation of athletic injuries.
  • Treatment of athletic injuries.
  • Providing counseling and education to student athletes.
  • Athletic training administrative duties.
  • Assist with coordination and scheduling of medical coverage for home and away competitions.
  • Recordkeeping and documentation of injuries, treatments and provide insurance claim forms for sports injuries treated by a physician.
  • Work with doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver athletic training services to student athletes acting as liaison between family physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes and their parents.
