About The Position

The Athletic Trainer Outreach provides day-to-day athletic training services for a local sports team, specifically James River High School. This role involves assessing, treating, and developing rehabilitation and reconditioning strategies for athletes, as well as designing and implementing prevention and education programs. The athletic trainer will attend all home and away games as agreed upon by the respective head coaches and/or athletic directors.

Requirements

  • Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as an Athletic Trainer or eligible.
  • National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Board of Certification (BOC) Current CPR certification.
  • Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as an Athletic Trainer.
  • National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Board of Certification (BOC).
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Bachelors Degree in a specialized curriculum accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years previous athletic training experience.
  • Masters Degree in a specialized curriculum accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, treat and develop rehabilitation and reconditioning strategies for athletes.
  • Design and implement prevention and education programs.
  • Attend all home and away games as agreed upon by the respective head coaches and/or athletic directors.
  • Perform prevention, assessment, treatment (including first aid) and reconditioning of athletic injuries as set forth by the NATA Board of Certification.
  • Demonstrate proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment.
  • Carry out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the team/program/event physician.
  • Maintain NATA and CPR certification in accordance with respective institutions.
  • Cover assigned pre-season physicals, sports games or matches, and related events under the supervision of the program manager.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the athletes’ status and interpret the appropriate information.
  • Assist with or transfer athletes of various weight/heights.
  • Push carts with athletic equipment on them.
  • Stand for long periods of time, have good mobility skills and be able to walk long distances.
  • Communicate to give adequate directions and instructions to athletes.
  • Carry training kit and coolers for long distances.
  • Handle high amounts of stress.
  • Adjust and adapt to changing conditions.

Benefits

  • Compensation Range $52,062.40 - $80,683.20
  • Actual salary offers will be based on several key factors to include relevant work experience, credentials, and qualifications.
