About The Position

This position involves mentoring staff, supervising work, and contributing to the daily operations of the department. The Athletic Trainer II recognizes, manages, and rehabilitates injuries for professional, amateur, and recreational athletes, while also providing techniques for injury prevention. This role operates independently but under the direction of the Sports Medicine Supervisor and Team Physicians to manage daily operations within a school district, college, or professional athletic medicine program. The Athletic Trainer II serves as a point of contact for Allegheny Health Network (AHN) to the district or athletic department, communicating injury management within the athletic program by liaising with athletic directors, general managers, coaches, school nurses, physicians, parents, athletes, and sports medicine staff. Additional duties include developing exercise programs, performing data entry and recordkeeping, assisting with facility cleaning, and monitoring supplies. This role also acts as a peer mentor, orienting new athletic trainers, demonstrating proficiency in standard operating procedures, documentation, communication, and customer service. The Athletic Trainer II provides feedback and performance evaluation input for other athletic trainer positions, mentors students and interns, and assists employees with concussion baseline software and mass testing exams. This position provides clinical leadership oversight and serves as a department resource for clinical questions for Athletic Trainer I and II positions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3-5 years’ experience
  • Current state licensure as a certified Athletic Trainer or eligible
  • National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) certification
  • Travel between various satellite locations
  • CPR – American Heart Association
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and manages injuries and determines whether a referral is necessary. Maintains a medical file on each athlete and acts as a liaison between the physician and the athlete or athlete's parent. Prepares athletes for practice or competition.
  • Acts as a liaison between school administrators, school nurses, guidance counselors, coaches, athletes, and parents to appropriately manage, educate and return athletes back to play/activity. Additionally, coordinates all communication to return athletes with concussions back to play in coordination with the Pennsylvania State Law.
  • Implements treatment and rehabilitation programs under the supervision of a physician. Develops functional training programs and conditioning programs for injured and non-injured athletes. Supervises student athletic trainers from area colleges when requested. Meets with University professors regarding intern performance.
  • Assists Senior staff for ongoing special projects not limited to but including; CPR Certification, Community Events, Concussion Education, Injury referral tracking, Special Events and Pre Participation physicals. Additionally Coverage of these events will be required and will travel to various satellite locations to support assignments.
  • Completes one educational program per year by means of organizing a speaker/event or speaking to support the continuing education program for the department un the guidelines of NATA/BOC. This event/events must be equal to or greater than 2 continuing educational hours with the NATA/BOC criteria.
