About The Position

The Athletic Trainer is a clinic-based position that serves as a key member of a comprehensive interdisciplinary healthcare team supporting the Professional Athlete Care Team (PACT) Clinic within the Tulane University Center for Sport. This role is primarily responsible for coordinating clinical services for former NFL players and other eligible participants receiving care through the PACT program, which is contracted through The Trust, powered by the NFLPA. The Athletic Trainer provides high-level operational and clinical coordination support throughout the patient care continuum, ensuring a seamless experience for patients from initial intake through care delivery. Key responsibilities include managing patient inquiries, conducting medical intake assessments, collecting and reviewing medical histories and records, coordinating referrals, verifying program eligibility and insurance coverage, arranging travel and logistical support, and scheduling clinical appointments and procedures. This position plays a critical role in facilitating efficient patient access to care while supporting the overall operations and mission of the PACT Clinic.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) at the time of hire.
  • Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME) Certification required within 90-days of employment and maintained thereafter.

  • Prior experience as an Athletic Trainer
  • Related experience working with athletes afflicted with orthopaedic and/or psychological issues.
  • Work history in a medical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Exceptionally strong people skills with the ability to interact effectively with former and current professional athletes and their family members.
  • Fluent in the use of appropriate digital tools for communication (i.e. phone, electronic medical records, video technology, messaging devices, and other telehealth devices) to support participant care, to enhance interoffice and intra-office communications
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and strict adherence to HIPAA regulations.
  • Goal-oriented, highly organized, proactive, assertive, and able to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Ability to advocate for excellence in patient services whether on-site or in other areas of the country.
  • Ability to coordinate and schedule multiple medical specialty evaluations, plan and adjust to medical itineraries as needed and care with members of the care team and the participant (and family where appropriate).
  • Ability to foster a collaborative, customer-oriented working environment.
  • Demonstrated record of strong initiative, problem-solving, and adaptability skills.
  • Strong listening, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to travel on weekends (at least 10 times a year) to both local and out-of-state program events.
