About The Position

This role involves fulfilling patient care responsibilities, including managing schedules, assisting patients with mobility and preparation for exams, collecting patient history, performing screenings, charting, relaying instructions, and answering calls. Clerical duties include managing patient records, obtaining reports, completing forms, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and updating charts. The position also requires fitting patients with Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and providing instructions, preparing patients for diagnostic tests, coordinating care, and performing casting and splinting applications. Organizational responsibilities include respecting patient rights, responding to emergencies, and reporting issues to supervisors. The role includes availability for sports coverage, providing care, assistance, and education to injured athletes at contracted high schools and colleges. Clinical medical assisting responsibilities include checking vital signs, preparing for physical examinations, verifying prescriptions, performing laboratory procedures in compliance with OSHA guidelines, and adhering to NYS guidelines for Medical Assistants. The position requires working collaboratively with physicians, APPs, nurses, receptionists, and other staff, while maintaining patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance. The role also involves adhering to ethical business practices and performing other assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill patient care responsibilities including checking schedules, organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam rooms, assisting patients with mobility, preparing for exams, collecting patient history, performing screenings, charting, relaying instructions, and answering calls.
  • Complete clerical responsibilities such as sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, completing forms/requisitions, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics, and managing/updating charts.
  • Fit patients and provide appropriate instruction on a variety of DME.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic tests and assist in the coordination of patient care.
  • Be proficient in casting and splinting applications and associated procedures including dressing changes, associated applications, and suture removal.
  • Complete organizational responsibilities including respecting/promoting patient rights, responding appropriately to emergency codes, and sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.
  • Provide availability for sport coverage duties at various events, rounding with contracted high schools and colleges to provide care, assistance, and education to injured athletes.
  • Fulfill clinical medical assisting responsibilities, including checking vital signs, physical examination preparations, prescription verifications with physician’s orders, laboratory procedures including OSHA guidelines, quality control methods, and emergency first aid.
  • Adhere to the MA scope of practice in the laboratory and practice based on NYS guidelines.
  • Work as part of a team along with Physicians, APPs, Licensed Nurses, Receptionists and all other staff.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and be HIPAA Compliant.
  • Comply with organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
