About The Position

Works under the general supervision of the Manager of Recreation Programs to plan, organize, and supervise city-wide athletic programs for youth or adults. Consults with administrative staff to plan athletic activities; prepares activity schedule according to number of teams and facilities available; works with neighborhood groups to determine athletic interests and needs of targeted group; recruits, trains, and supervises part-time staff; conducts special clinics to certify coaches, using videos and open discussion to instruct on game strategies and techniques, psychological coaching factors, first-aide, practice drills, and special Park Commission rules and regulations; conducts clinics to train officials for various sporting events, demonstrating officiating techniques and explaining rules and regulations; confers with participants and/or spectators to resolve grievances, provide information, and explain rules; oversees registration of teams to verify rosters and to ensure that registration requirements are maintained; works with outside agencies and organizations to secure and schedule the use of athletic facilities; inspects city facilities for condition of equipment and reports maintenance needs to supervisor; monitors and forecasts budget expenditures; and supervises weekend and night sporting events.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Recreation or Physical Education
  • Two (2) years of experience in planning and supervising athletic programs
  • Ability to communicate with management, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to lift and carry audiovisual equipment (approx. 30 lbs.).
  • Ability to demonstrate body movement and skills used in sporting activity and in officiating events, which will involve running, bending, and reaching.

  • Inspect city facilities for equipment condition and report maintenance needs.
  • Monitor and forecast budget expenditures.
  • Supervise weekend and night sporting events.
  • Perform additional functions as assigned.
