About The Position

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is looking for an Athletic Field Maintenance Technician to join our team! This position will be based at various parks within our South Region and will perform day-to-day maintenance on our athletic fields, including mowing, aeration and fertilization as well as participate in field layout and lining duties. The incumbent will work closely with our athletics staff and be responsible for upkeep of our athletic facilities, ensuring they remain optimal sites for athletic events and activities. A typical schedule would be weekday daytime hours but may include occasional weekends depending on business need. Region Specific Information: The South Region Maintenance & Operations Technician positions will cover parks and greenways located south of Interstate 85. A few of the parks within the South Region are McAlpine Creek Park, Park Road Park, Colonel Francis Beatty Park, Elon Park, and T.M. Winget Park. These parks and many other parks within the region host a multitude of events and activities that serve our community. Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience related to area of assignment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • General knowledge of applicable computer programs
  • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges.
  • Depending on area of assignment- may require Class A or Class B CDL.
  • Knowledge of light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and hazards associated with work.
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, supplies, and methods used in the maintenance activities.
  • Skills in filling out daily work sheets and other required forms.
  • Skills in operating light trucks, small tractors, mowers and similar automotive equipment.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in work responsibilities or environment.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to clearly convey information and ideas.
  • Ability to actively participate as a member of a team.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of activity and productivity.
  • Ability to manage time and resources efficiently.
  • Technical/Professional knowledge and skills in position-related areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Athletic field maintenance experience.

  • Class A CDL License.

Responsibilities

  • Perform setup, breakdown and cleaning during events.
  • Perform routine and non-routine cleaning services to restrooms and rental facilities.
  • Remove limbs and debris; blows leaves off sidewalks and greenways; clears mud and water from greenway tunnels after storms, and mow and trim ballfields.
  • Assist in manual labor such as brick laying, pipe laying, painting, carpentry and other construction tasks.
  • Layout measurements and line ballfields and assist in performing field maintenance.
  • Operate power mowers, chainsaws, brush cutter, edger and clippers, power washers, ATVs, litter vacuum, and other equipment used in facility maintenance, landscaping, roadside maintenance, and right of way cleaning.
  • Open park gates and removes trash.
  • Assist repair technicians in duties.
  • May operate light equipment such as utility vehicles, tractors, mowers and dump trucks.
  • May serve as a lead on a small work crew, community service workers, volunteers and/or part-time employees.
