About The Position

The Athletic Facility Assistant is responsible for ensuring the security, safety, and smooth operation of the athletic facilities, with a specific focus on the women's locker room. This role involves a combination of security checks, customer service, general facility maintenance, and administrative tasks. The position requires a proactive approach to maintaining a positive and safe environment for all users.

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12 or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must successfully complete a current recognized Standard First Aid, AED, and CPR certificate within the probationary period.
  • A minimum of one year of related experience in a customer service-oriented position.
  • Familiarity with athletic facilities, equipment and/or programs.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to perform the essential physical functional requirements of the position.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Considerable public relations skills, diplomacy and tact.
  • Conflict management skills.
  • Ability to deal calmly with angry or upset individuals.
  • Basic reading and writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Checking membership cards and approving/denying entry to the facility.
  • Performing walk-throughs of facilities to monitor safety, security, and compliance with regulations.
  • Securing and unlocking doors as per standard operating procedures.
  • Reporting safety, security, and maintenance deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Responding to emergency situations, including first aid and safety incidents.
  • Performing final rounds and lock-up of buildings, ensuring the facility is cleared of personnel.
  • Assuming a lead role in general facility operations in the absence of supervisors.
  • Providing general information to users regarding facilities, schedules, memberships, fees, services, and activities.
  • Resolving conflicts and addressing unexpected program cancellations.
  • Booking squash and tennis courts when the main office is closed.
  • Issuing and receiving towels, keys, and athletic equipment.
  • Maintaining a positive professional image through dress and behavior.
  • Serving as front-line reception for complaints, emergencies, and requests for assistance.
  • Responding to crisis situations and making independent decisions.
  • Supporting part-time staff in daily operations.
  • Liaising with contractors, trades people, police, and other external personnel.
  • Preparing laundry for washing, sorting, loading, and unloading commercial machines.
  • Maintaining and operating commercial laundry machines, performing minor maintenance.
  • Maintaining inventory of towels, supplies, equipment, and uniforms, and notifying supervisors of low stock.
  • Safely handling hazardous laundry chemicals.
  • Setting up, dismantling, moving, and storing equipment and furnishings for programs and events.
  • Performing repairs, cleaning, and preventative maintenance on exercise fitness equipment.
  • Maintaining various logs for inventory, tracking, and maintenance purposes.
  • Cleaning lockers, removing improperly stored belongings, and performing light housekeeping in locker rooms.
  • Performing seasonal locker clean-outs, including cutting locks and storing removed items.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and sanitization of work areas, including fitness equipment and laundry areas.
  • Receiving and logging incoming deliveries and distributing them appropriately.
  • Assisting with staff orientations and basic job training.
  • Providing guidance and assistance to apprentices and interns.
  • Assisting with mailings and promotions.
  • Providing input into operational procedures and building projects.
