About The Position

Hopkins Athletics and Recreation is seeking an innovative and forward-thinking Athletics Facilities Specialist to assist with the operation and maintenance of top-rate indoor and outdoor Athletic & Recreational Sports facilities. This role involves ensuring facilities are prepared for scheduled events, maintaining athletic and recreation areas, and contributing to a best-in-class athletic and recreation department. Requirements

  • High school diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Valid Maryland driver’s license and in good standing with the MVA.
  • Ability to operate large heavy equipment, such as trucks, power-operated grounds equipment, field rollers, and field marking machines.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs or more at times.
  • Ability to work as a team player and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • General knowledge of Athletics and Recreational Sports preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform event-related set-up and break-down for athletic events, including moving athletic goals, posting signage, opening/closing restrooms, handling flags and windscreens, and cleaning facilities.
  • Inspect facilities to ensure they are safe and provide a pleasurable experience for all involved.
  • Confer with supervisors to determine athletic field needs and scheduled use, including lining and marking, grading pitching mounds, dragging/grooming playing fields, and ensuring equipment is in place.
  • Maintain all fields to meet intercollegiate levels of competition set forth by the standards of the department, conferences, and NCAA policies, guidelines, and rules.
  • Operate various equipment related to maintaining outdoor athletic facilities, such as tractors, bobcats, trucks, Gators, boom lifts, scissor lifts, and hand power tools.
  • Utilize scaffolding and ladders.
  • Use hand- and power-operated custodial cleaning equipment for duties including cleaning, waxing, and polishing gymnasium floors, hallways, wrestling mats, trophy cases, and swimming pool decks.
  • Transport and set up athletics-related equipment and supplies.
  • Repair, modify, and/or maintain all athletic equipment, including painting and labeling.
  • Maintain facility grounds, walkways, and other surfaces; empty and clean waste receptacles; dispose of waste and debris.
  • Remove snow and ice and distribute materials that aid in melting ice and snow during winter periods.
  • Maintain fences and perform other basic maintenance incidental to landscaping and grounds.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly fashion, and inform supervisor of faulty/broken equipment.
  • Assist University Police and department staff with securing and unlocking facility spaces.
  • Correct and/or report guest irregularities to the proper authority.
  • Assist with pick-up and drop-off of department deliveries.
  • Ensure safety of worksites, utilize safety equipment and related safe work practices; correct or notify others of safety issues and needed repairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
